Photography in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District — murals, galleries, restaurants and the street life around them — shot for brands, developers, hospitality groups and the galleries themselves.
Wynwood changes faster than any other neighbourhood in Miami. Murals are repainted between seasons, galleries rotate exhibitions monthly, and new restaurants and retail keep opening along NW 2nd Avenue and the surrounding warehouse blocks. A shoot here is only as good as the week it happens in, which is why we scout the district before every commission rather than working from a stock shot list.
The neighbourhood also photographs differently depending on the hour. Hard midday sun flattens the murals and blows out the white warehouse walls; late afternoon brings the colour back and puts people on the street. For exteriors and street life we normally shoot in the two hours before sunset, and return at blue hour for anything involving neon or interior lighting.
Most of this work comes from four places: galleries and artists who need their shows documented properly; hospitality groups opening in the district; developers and brokers marketing warehouse conversions and new residential; and brands that want Wynwood as a backdrop for a campaign. Each needs a different edit of the same neighbourhood, so we agree the intended use — web, print, press kit, social — before the shoot rather than after it.
Most street-level photography in Wynwood needs no permit, but shoots involving crews, lighting setups, talent or drone work often do, and private walls are exactly that — private. We handle location clearances and FAA-compliant drone operation as part of the booking, and we will tell you in advance if a location is going to be a problem.
