Design District Photography by Lulo Studio

Photography in the Miami Design District — architecture, flagship retail, public art and the restaurants between them — for luxury brands, developers, architects and hospitality groups.

Photographing the Design District

The Design District is the most controlled visual environment in Miami. Almost everything in it — the facades, the courtyards, the public art, the shopfronts — was designed to be looked at, which makes it rewarding to photograph and unforgiving of a careless frame. Reflections off the glass, the mix of white stone and deep shade in the paseos, and the sheer amount of architectural detail all need to be handled deliberately rather than corrected afterwards.

We shoot the neighbourhood at the hours that suit the subject. Exteriors and architecture work best early, before the courtyards fill and while the light still reaches down between the buildings. Retail interiors and restaurants are usually better after dark, when the brands’ own lighting design does the work and the district takes on the look it was built for.

What we photograph here

  • Architecture and facades — exteriors, paseos, courtyards and structural detail
  • Flagship retail and showrooms — store interiors, window schemes and visual merchandising
  • Public art and installations — including the sculptural pieces in the district’s open spaces
  • Restaurants and hospitality — interiors, terraces, food and the room in service
  • Campaigns and lookbooks — using the district as a location for brand and fashion work
  • Events, openings and activations

Who commissions this work

Architects and interior designers documenting completed projects. Luxury and fashion brands needing store and campaign imagery. Developers and leasing teams marketing space. Hospitality groups opening restaurants in the district. Galleries and cultural programmes documenting installations. The brief differs in every case, so we confirm what the images are actually for — press, leasing deck, web, print campaign — before we plan the shoot.

Practical notes

Retail interiors and much of the district’s private property require permission from the brand or the management, and shoots involving crews, lighting or talent generally need it in writing. We handle those clearances as part of the booking, and we schedule around the district’s own calendar — openings, installations and Miami Art Week all change what is possible in a given week.
